I have this cool bespoke dungeon module I want to run. A motherfucking banger ass dungeon. But damn, it's for DCC and I'd rather run it in Mothership. Maybe I can run a Dolmenwood campaign instead. Juicy hexcrawl. Yeah that sounds rad. Ah shit, it's another b/x clone. Goddamn I'd rather use Cairn.
The thought of having to convert the whole thing before I can start running it sounds stressful. So much work. Maybe I just stick to something that matches.
No. Fuck this.
First, numbers aren't important. Just steal them from existing things in your system. Pick something that's close enough. You know, just use bears.
Second, whatever special or weird thing it can do is much more interesting than any number. And guess what, when in doubt just reflavor something that already exists. Again.
Lastly. The thing you are converting doesn't have to match the original from the other game at all.
Once you start fucking with it, it's yours too. The person who wrote it got to make their version. Now you get to make yours. They don't know better than you what this thing should be in your game. If you get inspired to make it different, cooler, bigger, smaller, or just more weird, do it. Fucking do it.
You're not fucking up their thing. You're making your thing. That's the juice.
